FREE ADMISSION COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR MUSEUM BY HELPING OUT
Last year’s very successful Open House was attended by more than 10,000 people. It is CMFT’s most important event of the year, and is our best opportunity to involve the community in the function and goals of CMFT.
It’s a fun event, with something of interest for the whole family. Food will be served all day, and there are many events, contests and displays.
There will be drcycles, models, and much more. cars, fire trucks, of vintage (and current) aircraft, helicopters,
Hot-air balloon rides (weather permitting), helicopter tires (subject to availability), parachute drop-in, aircraft flypasts, and other events will be featured.
There is no charge for admission. Programs will be sold entitling visitors to a chance at door prizes.
The success of this important fund-raising function sends entirely on volunteers who man the booths, prepare and serve food, act as guides, parking attendants, traffic control, and whatever else needs doing.
Members are urged to turn out on both days if possible, or at least for one day at 8:00 A.M. for assignment of tasks. Better still, phone and have a task assigned in advance, for smoother and more efficient work scheduling. The more people who turn out, the shorter the shifts.
If you can’t work, come anyway, bring friends and family, and enjoy!
CMFT OPENS FOR TOURS APRIL 11, 1987:
The Storage Site will opening for our regular tour season starting Apr. 11th. Although we usually open in mid-March, both the weather (wet as usual) and filming of a movie (see below) have set us back, but it will be business as usual. We will be holding an official public opening starting May 2, after which time we will start to charge admission to the museum. During the month of April, admission will be free.
CAFT AIRCRAFT TO BECOME STARS!:
Several of the CMFT aircraft are now being used for the filming of “Earth Star Voyager”, a Disney production being filmed on the Expo site. The Seabee, Aeronca Chief, SE5a, Flying Flea and more are now on the site as props and background for this upcoming movie. If you see it in the the- atre later this year, keep your eyes open for our now “famous” aircraft.
ADMISSION TO BE CHARGED:
As mentioned above, as of May 2, 1987 CMFT will begin charging admission to the site. Tenative fees are $2 for adults, $1 for kids and seniors, and under 10 free. This is a much needed move to help cover the cost of operation of the site, and does away with the “admission by donation.” The good news is that your membership in CMFT now includes FREE admission to the museum for the member.
MEMBERSHIP FEE INCREASE:
Now the bad news at the Annual General Meeting a motion will be presented to increase the annual membership fees to $20 a year from the current $15. We regret having to increase fees, but rising costs leave us with no choice. Memberships will still include a subscription to the museum newsletter, as well as free admission and other benefits from time to time. General Membership to be $20, Family to be $30 and Junior (under 16) to be $12. Lifetime memberships will remain at $300.
STILL SEARCHING…..
We are still searching for the missing CMFT Expo shopcoats. Those of you who have a shopcoat/coverall at home, PLEASE return them. They cost $21 each, and we are still missing quite a few it adds up to money we really can’t spare. If you would like to keep one for a souvenir, please let us know and we will charge you the $21. It is important that we clear this up soon, as Expo finished over 5 months ago.
PROXY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
If you are unable to attend the Annual General Meeting, we request that you fill out the proxy below and mail it to the museum immediately, or give it to another member who will be attending. It is important that we have a quorum at the meeting, So every vote counts. Please mail proxy to 13527 Crescent Rd., Surrey, BC V4A 201.
OPEN HOUSE JUNE 20 & 21, 1987:
Our annual Open House, this year being held on June 20 & 21, is gearing up to be as big as usual. The attendance during the past several years has averaged around 10,000 people over the two day event, so as usual we will need all the help we can get. Last year’s volunteer turn out was great, in spite of everyone’s heavy involvement with Expo. Let’s do it again this year and keep the tradition going. A Open House planning meeting will be held on Apr. 7th at 8:00 PM at the museum site. If you want to get involved with the organization and operation of Open House, please come out to the meeting and offer your support. Planning starts early, so please don’t leave it till the day before to come out and say “what can I do?” If we are all prepared beforehand, things will go much smoother during the show.
TOUR GUIDES NEEDED:
As usual, this is our annual plea for volunteers to act as Tour Guides for the site. If you can spare 2 or more hours a day, any day (we will be opening every day except Monday) please come out and do your part. This is an excellent opportunity to meet interesting people, learn something new, and have a lot of fun. Come on out! Postmaster: Request return of undelivered copies to:
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SITE SET-UP:
Starting immediately, many volunteers are needed to help set-up the aircraft and generally get the site ready for the opening on April 11th. Even if you aren’t comfortable with the aircraft, we still need help with landscaping and other stuff, so please come out if you can. We work daily starting at 9:00, daily except Sunday (before opening), so any time you can come out we would appreciate your help. The bigger the crew the better, so try for Saturdays to get the most work done.
SEVENTH ANNUAL SPRING DINNER:
CMFT’s 7th Annual Spring Dinner is scheduled for sometime in late April or early May. We do not have a date or location established yet, but if you are interested in attending please call us and we will and try to firm up plans as soon as possible. We are considering a served-dinner type meal this year rather than the usual Chinese food, but will try to keep the price under $12 per person. Please call us if you have any suggestions.
